American Time Use Survey (2009) in MySQL format

January 26, 2011

Well, I’m on a quest to find interesting statistical data about the world outside my door. The interwebz are positively brimming with all sorts of info, but one particular survey stood out to me. It’s called the American Time Use Survey and is conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. They make the full data sets available for download from their site, but other than the CSVs they only provide scripts to import into SPSS. A quick googling revealed that no one seems to have created a MySQL version of it, so I took it upon myself to do so.

Now, I didn’t even begin to try to optomize this DB, pretty much every column is an INT unless it required a BIGINT, TIME, or DOUBLE. Downloading this means you realize I may have made some mistake and you don’t hold me liable for anything and everything blah blah blah. Here it is: the 2009 American Time Use Survey in MySQL format.
